Under the slogan “Be Prepared, Not Surprised!”, Prague is launching a comprehensive information campaign aimed at better preparing the public for potential crisis situations. The initiative brings together practical guidance – from first aid and blackouts to evacuation procedures.
“Be Prepared, Not Surprised!” (Buď připraven, nebuď překvapen) – under this motto, the Prague City Council is launching a new information campaign to raise public awareness of possible emergencies and crisis situations. The initiative provides practical advice – for example, on first aid, preparing an evacuation bag, how to behave during a blackout or flood, and recommended steps in the event of an active attacker.
“We are building on the 72 Hours brochure published by the Ministry of the Interior and adding Prague-specific elements. The capital has a subway network, a high population density, many international visitors, and other characteristics that set it apart from the rest of the country. That is why we have launched a dedicated information campaign for residents and visitors of the metropolis. In one place, they can find all the important guidance on how to act correctly in extraordinary situations,” says Prague Mayor Bohuslav Svoboda.

In addition to the new website nebudprekvapen.cz (CZ) and an accompanying podcast series, the campaign will also be visible on social media, outdoor advertising, and public transport vehicles. The aim is to provide people with clear and easily understandable guidance on how to behave in crisis situations.
“In the initial moments of a crisis, emergency services focus on those who need immediate help most urgently. It is therefore crucial that the rest of the population knows exactly how to act until assistance arrives. A prepared and informed society makes our work easier and allows us to deploy our resources where they are needed most,” explains Luděk Prudil, Director of the Prague Fire Brigade. The capital is working closely with all units of the Integrated Rescue System for the campaign, drawing on their experience and expertise.
