Prague’s Slovanský dům garden has once again opened its gates for a festive escape from the city’s busy Christmas markets. Now in its fifth year, the garden has been transformed into a magical winter wonderland.
For those seeking festive charm without the crowds of the city’s main squares, the Slovanský dům garden in the heart of the capital offers a peaceful seasonal retreat. For the fifth consecutive year, the garden has been transformed into a wonderland of lights, serenity, and holiday cheer—this year embracing a butterfly theme under the slogan “When Christmas Spreads Its Wings.”
“Why butterflies? Because they are a symbol of transformation, hope, and beauty born from calm and darkness. Just as Christmas brings light to the darkest part of the year, butterflies remind us that even in winter, something beautiful can emerge,” says Ivana Pourová, Marketing Manager at Slovanský dům.
The light installations are once again the work of the Czech family business Decoled, which collaborated closely with Slovanský dům to bring the vision to life. “Working with Decoled guarantees exceptional results for us. Every year, they surprise us with the precision and creativity with which they transform our garden into a place where the magic of Christmas comes to life,” Pourová adds.
The festive illumination is on display daily from 4:30 p.m. to midnight until 10 January. Visitors can wander through a range of attractions, including a glowing light tunnel, a dedicated photo point for perfect holiday snaps, and a heated igloo to relax amid the decorations.
Festive drinks by Advivum promise to keep guests warm. This year’s offerings include white mulled wine with lavender honey, dried fruit, and a splash of Prosecco (“Sparkling & Spicy with Prosecco”), as well as red mulled wine infused with red fruit, oranges, and black pepper (“Hot & Fruity like Sangria”). Non-alcoholic options such as Hot Apple with Cinnamon and American Hot Chocolate ensure younger visitors can join in the festive cheer. Drinks are available daily from 2:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
