Shortly before the New Year, residents of Prague have the chance to be active free of charge and try out new sports. In the last week of December 2025, the traditional “Free Sports Week” will take place.
At the end of the year, Prague residents can get active again: from Thursday, 25 December, to Wednesday, 31 December 2025, the already traditional “Free Sports Week” (Týden sportu zdarma) will be held in the Czech capital. The aim of the initiative is to give citizens the opportunity to finish the year on a sporty note and try out a wide range of sports free of charge.
“As every year, we want to give people the opportunity to spend the last days of the year actively,” explains Antonín Klecanda, Prague’s Councillor for Sport. “Instead of spending the holidays only on sweet treats, Prague residents can plan a sporty week and thus combine physical activity with rest and reflection.”
Some sports facilities require a telephone or online reservation due to limited capacity. Free access is not always available throughout opening hours but only on selected days and at certain times.
Last year, dozens of sports facilities took part in the initiative, offering a wide range of activities. Thousands of visitors made use of the offer – some facilities were even fully booked at times.
Participating sports venues offer activities ranging from swimming, ice skating, climbing, beach volleyball, fitness, badminton, baseball or softball to group fitness classes and martial arts.
The list of participating facilities may still be expanded if additional operators join in the coming days. Further information on participating sports venues, opening hours, and reservations is available at prahasportovni.cz.
