Better Network Coverage in Pendolino, Railjet and InterPanter Trains of ČD

České dráhy are modernising mobile reception on board with 5G signal boosters

Passengers can now benefit from improved mobile reception and faster internet on all Pendolino, Railjet and InterPanter trains of České dráhy. Thanks to the new 5G signal boosters, working and browsing on the move has become significantly more comfortable.

Passengers on Pendolino, Railjet and InterPanter trains of České dráhy (ČD) can look forward to markedly improved mobile coverage and faster internet access. Following the Railjets, which were already equipped with 5G signal boosters in the spring, the installation of boosters in all Pendolino and InterPanter units has now also been completed.

“The installation of the signal boosters is a significant step in improving our services and noticeably increases comfort for our passengers,” explains Michal Krapinec, Chairman of the Board and General Director of České dráhy. “We have equipped a total of 151 carriages in 27 Pendolino, Railjet and InterPanter units. This transforms the trains into fully-fledged mobile workplaces. With innovations like these, we create real added value for our passengers in everyday travel.”

Technically, a train repeater is a device that channels the mobile operators’ signal into the vehicle and boosts it when needed. This reduces the damping effect caused by the carriage structure. The amplification is dynamically adjusted according to the current network coverage.

In addition, 209 carriages, mainly on domestic long-distance routes, have been treated with lasers on the windows to facilitate the passage of mobile signals. All suitably adapted carriages are already in operation.

Furthermore, České dráhy continue to test the satellite internet service Starlink from the US company SpaceX under real operating conditions, being one of the world’s first rail operators to do so.
