    Ukrainian President Zelensky visits Prague

Following a meeting with Czech President Pavel on Sunday, talks with Prime Minister Fiala are on the agenda today

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has arrived in Prague for a two-day visit. Discussions will focus on further military aid and the Czech ammunition initiative.

President Zelensky and his wife, Olena, arrived in Prague on Sunday for an unannounced visit. He was received at Prague Airport by Foreign Minister Jan Lipavský and later met Czech President Petr Pavel in the afternoon.

At the meeting between the two presidents, Pavel emphasised that the Czech ammunition initiative would continue. ‘We will maintain these deliveries for as long as necessary — in other words, above all, until a just peace has been achieved for Ukraine,’ Pavel explained. The former NATO general announced that 1.8 million rounds of large-calibre ammunition could be made available by the end of the year. The initiative is currently receiving financial support from eleven countries.

Zelensky thanked Prague for its unwavering support and expressed hope of receiving further military aid from the Czech Republic to defend against the Russian war of aggression.

Further meetings between Zelensky and Czech politicians, including Prime Minister Petr Fiala, as well as representatives of the defence industry, are planned for Monday. They are also expected to discuss the training of Ukrainian pilots for F-16 fighter jets.

Strict security measures are in place throughout Zelensky’s visit. This is the Ukrainian President’s second visit to the Czech Republic.
