Laser Beam from Žižkov Television Tower Commemorates the End of World War II 80 Years Ago

The official launch of the laser will be given by President Petr Pavel on 8th May

For the 80th anniversary of the end of the war, Prague is making an impressive statement of remembrance and hope: A highly visible laser beam from the Žižkov Television Tower will cross the night sky on 8th and 9th May 2025. The light installation is intended to encourage reflection and serve as a powerful symbol of peace.

On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II, a laser beam from the Žižkov Television Tower (Tower Park Praha | Žižkovská věž) will illuminate the sky over Prague on 8th and 9th May 2025. The installation will be visible far beyond the city limits and aims to serve as a strong symbol of peace and remembrance.

President Petr Pavel will officially launch the laser on 8th May. The beam will be switched on at 10:00 PM and will be visible from numerous locations in and around Prague. For the best view, visitors should choose viewpoints with an open panoramic view. Particularly recommended are elevated spots such as Petřín Park, Letná, Hradčany, or Vítkov Hill. From these locations, the tower is easily visible.

The event not only serves as a reminder of the horrors of war, but also aims to send a clear message of the desire for lasting peace.

Supporting Programme at the Žižkov Television Tower

Around the anniversary, the Žižkov Television Tower (Tower Park Praha | Žižkovská věž) will offer a variety of additional programmes for visitors from 8th to 18th May. History enthusiasts can take part in guided tours of the tower’s history. These will take place daily at 10:00, 13:00, 15:00, and 16:00 in Czech, and at 11:00, 14:00, and 17:00 in English.

The theme will also be explored through cuisine: At the Oblaca Restaurant and the Miminoo Garden Restaurant, a special menu with themed cocktails will be available to commemorate this historic event.

A graphical preview already shows how the laser beam will be staged at the tower. The organisers are eager to receive photos and videos from visitors to capture the impressions of this special moment.
