Beneath the Negrelli Viaduct in Karlín, the Prague City Library invites you this summer to enjoy games, fantasy and creative exchange. It’s a place for curious minds, geeks – and everyone in between.
Nestled between brickwork and railway tracks, visitors will find a new cultural meeting point in Prague: the Prague City Library has opened a temporary summer branch in one of the restored arches of the Negrelli Viaduct in Karlín – with a very special concept.
Until 28 August 2025, the viaduct arch will be transformed into a miniature world for fans of fantasy, sci-fi and comics. In addition to thematically curated literature, there will be board games, role-playing games (RPGs), and creative hands-on activities.
‘We provide the necessary equipment, expert guidance, advice – and a relaxed atmosphere,’ says Michal Jokeš from the DOK16 cultural project, which is currently on hiatus due to technical reasons and has found a summer home under the viaduct.
Target audience? ‘Mainly geeks,’ Jokeš says with a wink. But anyone curious – about books, games or the newly revitalised arch architecture – is welcome.

A New Place to Browse and Play
The summer library is open on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 3 to 6 p.m. During this time, visitors can borrow books – especially fantasy, science fiction, comics and crafting guides – or enjoy board games on site. Those who wish can also make buttons, magnets or small mirrors, or paint miniatures.
At 6 p.m., the so-called Spieledomizil (game domicile) begins: that’s when things get serious – with more complex board games, extended RPG sessions and encounters with genre authors. Creative writing workshops and other themed activities are also planned.
Barrier-Free, Creative and Open to All
Admission is free, as is participation in all activities. Anyone not yet a member of the City Library can register on site for an annual fee of just 60 crowns.
Whether you’re a book lover, crafter, gamer or simply curious, the library under the viaduct is open to all – and stands as a great example of how urban space can be creatively reimagined.
