After more than a year of construction work, the reopening of Prague’s Českomoravská metro station is approaching – just in time for the Figure Skating World Championships at the nearby O2 Arena.

According to Prague Public Transit Company (DPP), the station on Line B is scheduled to return to service on 20 March. The station has been closed since January last year due to extensive reconstruction work. The construction took longer than originally planned, as the structural condition of the facility proved to be worse than initially expected. The transport operator now assumes that the work can be completed in time.

The date for the reopening was chosen deliberately: only a few days later, the Figure Skating World Championships will take place at the nearby O2 Arena. The international sporting event will be held from 24 to 29 March and is expected to attract numerous visitors.

Passengers will have to prepare for further disruptions in 2026

Alongside the reopening of Českomoravská, passengers will nevertheless have to prepare for further restrictions in Prague’s metro network this year. Several construction projects are planned, particularly on Line C.

Due to the ongoing replacement of sleepers, the section between Chodov and Pražského povstání stations will be closed from 3 to 6 April and again from 26 to 28 September. In addition, metro services will be suspended between Kobylisy and I. P. Pavlova from 8 to 10 May due to the modernisation of signalling equipment.

Another closure is planned from 4 to 10 July between Nádraží Holešovice and Pražského povstání. During these periods, the transport operator will introduce replacement bus services.

However, no additional restrictions are planned this year in connection with the renovation of the ceiling slab at Florenc station on Line C. The works have been underway since 2022 and are scheduled to be completed in December this year. According to the transport operator, no further closures of metro services are expected in connection with the project this year.

Closure of Hradčanská metro station postponed

The planned closure of Hradčanská metro station will be slightly delayed. According to the public transport operator, the city intends to wait with the station’s closure for renovation works until the construction at Flora station on the same line has been completed. The reopening of Flora is currently expected at the beginning of December.
