With new platforms, a pedestrian bridge and a future bus terminal, Praha-Smíchov station is undergoing a fundamental reconstruction. The first parts of the project are expected to be completed later this year.

The extensive reconstruction of Praha-Smíchov station is continuing to take shape. The first newly redesigned platforms are scheduled to be completed later this year. Once all works are finished, the transport hub is expected to offer significantly improved interchange options between rail services and public transport.

A central element of the modernisation is a new fourth platform. It will mainly be used by trains running along the so-called Prague Semmering towards Zličín. The roof of this platform is currently being constructed, while work on the third platform is proceeding in parallel. Both platforms are scheduled to be completed in October, together with the first sections of the new underpasses. Work will then begin on the second platform.

Progress is also visible on the new pedestrian bridge, which will in future connect Smíchov with the Radlice district as well as with the individual platforms. Several of the supporting pillars are already in place. The bridge will replace the existing steel structure above the tracks and will be fully accessible.

At the same time, foundations are already being prepared for the planned bus terminal, which is being financed by the City of Prague. This approach was coordinated between the infrastructure administration and the city in order to ensure that the later construction of the terminal interferes with rail traffic as little as possible.

The construction companies involved in the project include Metrostav TBR, OHLA ŽS, Elektrizace železnic Praha and Hochtief CZ. The investment costs amount to around 5.12 billion crowns.

Completion of the entire project is planned for the end of 2028. Afterwards, the historic station building is also expected to be modernised, with works scheduled for the years 2028 to 2030.

The expansion of Praha-Smíchov station and the installation of modern signalling technology are partly financed with EU funds from the “Connecting Europe Facility” programme.
