St. Patrick’s Day is celebrated extensively in Prague every year. Around 17 March, numerous pubs and parts of the city centre turn into a sea of green. With a parade, live music and many events, the Czech capital will once again offer plenty of opportunities to experience and enjoy Irish culture in 2026.

St. Patrick’s Day falls on Tuesday, 17 March this year. In Ireland and Northern Ireland, the day is a public holiday in honour of the national saint Patrick, the country’s first Christian missionary. What once began as a religious celebration has long since developed into a worldwide festival that is celebrated by millions of people even outside Ireland. In Prague, many expats and locals also mark the day each year with great enthusiasm.

St. Patrick’s Day 2026 Events in Prague

The first events in the Czech capital begin already on the weekend before the actual holiday. One of the highlights is the St. Patrick’s Day Parade 2026 (FB), which takes place on Sunday in the centre of Prague. The parade starts at 14:00 at the intersection of Jindřišská Street and Wenceslas Square (Václavské náměstí) and will turn the city centre into a sea of green. The event is organised by the Czech Irish Business and Cultural Association. Visitors can look forward to Irish music, dancing and a lively atmosphere.

Guinness pop-up for St. Patrick’s Day at Holešovická tržnice: On Tuesday, 17 March, Holešovická tržnice will transform into an Irish celebration with music, good food, the iconic Guinness beer and Irish whiskey. The event is organised by Guinness and the Irish whiskey Tullamore D.E.W.

The CIBCA St. Patrick’s Day Gala Dinner 2026 (FB) will take place on 21 March this year at the MÁNES Art Restaurant. The event returns to a classic gala dinner with served courses. The evening also serves a charitable purpose: donations will be collected for the organisation Acorus, which supports victims of domestic violence.

Irish Pubs in Prague

A particularly traditional meeting place is the James Joyce, the oldest Irish pub in the city. Celebrations there begin on Tuesday, 17 March, as early as 11:00. In addition to Guinness on tap, there will be live music and a varied programme throughout the day.

Also located in the centre, not far from Národní třída, is Gabby’s Irish Pub. The pub is especially popular with international guests and hosts a so-called Whiskey Weekend (FB) around St. Patrick’s Day. From Friday, 13 March, visitors can start the festive weekend there with drink specials and Irish atmosphere.

On Prague’s Lesser Town is J. J. Murphy’s Irish Pub, one of the best-known Irish establishments in the city. Here, the famous dark beer is traditionally served, which goes back to Arthur Guinness, who founded the world-famous Guinness brewery in 1759.

Relatively new on Prague’s pub map is Dear Watson in Karlín. The venue is more in the style of an English pub, but also serves freshly poured Guinness. Although it has only been open for a few months, it has already earned a good reputation among expats in Prague.

Anyone heading through the city on St. Patrick’s Day will find many other Irish pubs where celebrations will also take place. These include:

Whether a parade, live music or a pint of Guinness in a pub – Prague will once again offer plenty of opportunities around St. Patrick’s Day in 2026 to experience a piece of Irish culture right in the heart of the city.
