The United Islands festival is significantly expanding its programme beyond music this year. On the new United Forum stage, social debates on topics such as artificial intelligence, media, and future perspectives will take centre stage.

The multi-genre festival United Islands, which takes place from 30 April to 2 May on Prague’s Štvanice island, is considerably expanding its non-musical programme this year. At the heart of it is a new discussion platform called United Forum, where current social issues will be brought into focus – from artificial intelligence and the future of young people to the role of the media in democracy.

Among the announced guests are journalists Václav Moravec and Zdislava Pokorná, greenfluencer Rozárie Haškovcová, as well as lawyer and political scientist Jakub Landovský.

“We want the festival not only to offer music, but also to address the questions young people are asking today,” says festival director Martin Štěrba. Topics such as artificial intelligence, science, sexual health, future prospects, and social resilience are set to take centre stage.

A central theme of this year’s programme is the interplay between technology and science. Contributions and discussions are planned to show how ideas can be turned into concrete projects. In addition, insights into biochemical research as well as perspectives on space exploration will be presented.

Furthermore, the festival addresses current issues affecting multiple generations. Discussions will include what perspectives the Czech Republic offers young people and who today upholds democratic structures. Changes in trust, authority, and influence in an increasingly fast-paced information society will also be in focus.

Exciting New Acts from Home and Abroad

The United Islands festival is traditionally divided into two parts: while Thursday is dedicated to the club scene, the open-air programme takes place on Friday and Saturday on Štvanice, complemented by evening events in Prague clubs.

International highlights include the British indie rock trio Bilk, the Irish electro-noise band Yard, and Dutch singer Min Taka. The domestic scene will be represented by singer-songwriter Toyota Vangelis, Czech-Vietnamese rapper Anki, and indie band WYFE, among others.

Admission to the festival is traditionally free, although visitors can support the event through voluntary tickets.
