The Prague Derby “S” was abandoned on Saturday evening following serious crowd trouble. Hundreds of home supporters invaded the pitch during added time, attacked Sparta players and caused one of the biggest scandals in Czech football in recent years.

The Prague derby between SK Slavia Praha and AC Sparta Praha was abandoned on Saturday evening following serious disturbances. Slavia supporters stormed the pitch during added time and attacked several Sparta Prague players. The match was subsequently abandoned and not resumed.

Following the pitch invasion, the players of both teams immediately left the field, while Sparta departed shortly afterwards for security reasons.

The league’s disciplinary commission (LFA) will now investigate the incident. Slavia could face significant consequences. According to media reports, the match could even be awarded as a 3–0 victory to the visitors. Should the result ultimately be awarded in Sparta’s favour, Slavia’s lead at the top of the table would be reduced to five points with three rounds remaining in the season.

In addition, heavy fines as well as possible partial stadium closures or matches behind closed doors are being considered. In addition, heavy fines as well as possible partial stadium closures or matches behind closed doors are being considered. In a statement on X, Slavia chairman Jaroslav Tvrdík said this morning: “The Tribuna Sever has been closed with immediate effect. It will remain closed until all perpetrators who attacked AC Sparta Praha players and targeted the away section with pyrotechnics have been identified and handed over to the law enforcement authorities.”

The disturbances began at the start of the nine minutes of added time. Numerous home supporters gathered behind the advertising boards at the edge of the pitch. Shortly afterwards, hundreds of spectators invaded the field. Some supporters from the Slavia end also ran towards the away section and threw pyrotechnics. In the chaos that followed, television footage appeared to show several Sparta players being attacked.

For Czech football, the incident represents another major blow to its image. In the history of the independent Czech league, a match has only been abandoned prematurely due to fan violence for the third time.
