More Tourists and Overnight Stays in the Czech Republic in Q1 2026: Prague Stays Top Destination

Guests from Germany, Poland and Slovakia in particular travelled to the Czech Republic at the beginning of the year. The number of visitors from the USA and Asia also continued to increase

The Czech Republic remains a popular destination for holidaymakers: In the first quarter of 2026, both the number of guests and the number of overnight stays rose significantly. Most foreign visitors came from Germany, Poland and Slovakia.

The Czech Republic recorded a significant increase in tourist numbers in the first quarter of 2026. According to current data, a total of 4.4 million guests stayed in hotels, guesthouses and other accommodation facilities across the country between January and March. This represents an increase of 5.2 per cent compared with the same period last year.

Around 2.3 million guests came from within the country, while just under 2.1 million visitors arrived from abroad. Tourists from neighbouring countries in particular chose to stay in the Czech Republic. Most foreign visitors came from Germany, with around 474,000 guests, followed by Poland with 188,000 and Slovakia with 172,000 travellers. Tourists from the United Kingdom and Italy were also strongly represented.

The number of overnight stays also continued to rise. A total of 11.1 million overnight stays were recorded in the first quarter, representing an increase of 5.7 per cent. The average length of stay was 3.55 days.

According to CzechTourism, interest from more distant markets is also continuing to grow. Particularly high numbers of visitors came from the USA, South Korea, Taiwan and Israel. Foreign tourists were especially drawn to Prague as well as the Karlovy Vary and South Moravian regions.

Foreign visitors to the Czech Republic continue to show the greatest interest in culture and landmarks, active holidays and family activities. These were followed by gastronomy, entertainment, nature and wellness.

Prague Stays Top Destination

Prague remained by far the most visited region in the country in the first quarter. Nearly 1.7 million guests were counted in the capital, where they spent a total of 3.8 million nights. This was followed by the Hradec Králové Region as well as the South Moravian, Karlovy Vary and Liberec regions.

Hotels also remained the most popular form of accommodation in 2026. In total, around 3.4 million guests stayed in hotels during the first quarter, representing an increase of 5.6 per cent. Four-star hotels were particularly popular, especially among foreign tourists.
