With the new direct connection between Prague and Hanoi, the Czech Republic will gain its first regular air route to the Vietnamese capital. From October 2026, Vietjet Air will operate flights twice a week between the two capitals with a stopover in Kazakhstan.

A regular direct air connection between Prague and Hanoi is being established for the first time in the modern history of the Czech Republic. From 10 October 2026, the Vietnamese low-cost airline Vietjet Air will launch twice-weekly flights between the Czech and Vietnamese capitals. Prague will also become the airline’s first European destination.

The new connection is expected not only to strengthen tourism between Vietnam and the Czech Republic, but also to provide new momentum for trade and freight transport. According to Prague Airport, more than 75,000 passengers travelled between Prague and Hanoi last year alone – although no direct connection had previously existed.

“Vietnam represents the strongest market in terms of passenger numbers with which we have not yet had a direct air connection. That is why we have worked intensively and over the long term to establish a direct route to Hanoi,” said Jiří Pos, Chairman of the Board of Prague Airport (Letiště Praha).

The new route will operate on Tuesdays and Saturdays. At launch, the flight will include a stopover in the Kazakh city of Almaty. Passengers will also be able to book tickets for the partial route between Prague and Almaty.

According to the flight schedule, the aircraft will depart Hanoi at 8.45am and arrive in Prague at 6.30pm after the stopover in Almaty. The return flight will depart Prague at 8.30pm and arrive in Hanoi at 4.45pm the following day. The route will be operated using an Airbus A330-300 with a total capacity of 377 passengers.

According to Prague Airport, the connection is expected to be particularly important for the large Vietnamese community in the Czech Republic. During the first year of operation, officials expect more than 67,000 passengers in both directions.

In addition to family visits, those involved also expect positive effects for tourism. “Thanks to this new direct connection, Vietnam will become significantly more accessible for Czech visitors,” said Jiří Pos. At the same time, the route could deepen existing business relations and encourage new economic contacts between the two countries. Vietnam is also regarded as an important gateway to South-East Asia, which could also benefit freight transport.

Vietjet Air was founded in 2007 and is headquartered in Hanoi. Through the airline’s route network, travellers will in future gain access to more than 40 onward connections across Asia.
