Prague is continuing to expand its charging infrastructure for electric vehicles. Following a one-year trial operation, the energy company PRE (Pražská energetika), in which the City of Prague holds a stake, has officially brought the largest combined EV charging hub in the Czech capital into regular operation.
The new charging hub is located on Novovysočanská Street in Prague 9 and enables the simultaneous charging of up to 161 vehicles. At the heart of the public facility are two ultra-fast charging stations manufactured by Alpitronic, each offering up to 400 kW of power. They are among the most powerful charging stations in Prague and allow four vehicles to charge simultaneously.
The facility is complemented by additional fast-charging infrastructure located on PRE’s adjacent operational site. Six further ultra-fast charging stations with twelve charging connectors and outputs of up to 300 kW are available there. In addition, the site includes 50 AC charging points, 25 wallboxes and three dedicated AC charging points integrated into street lamps.
Prague’s Largest Charging Hub Relies on Intelligent Energy Management
A key feature of the new site is an intelligent energy management system. It monitors in real time the electricity consumption of all buildings on the premises as well as all 161 charging points. Based on available grid capacity, the system automatically adjusts charging performance and prevents the infrastructure from becoming overloaded.
Clearly defined priorities apply: first, the electricity supply for the buildings is secured. Public fast-charging stations are then given priority, followed by the operational fast chargers. The remaining capacity is allocated to the slower AC charging points.

PRE is also testing new service offerings at the site. For the first time, a vacuum cleaning system has been installed, allowing customers to clean their vehicles while charging. The system is technically integrated into the existing charging infrastructure and can be activated using the same chip as the charging stations.
Further improvements are planned in the coming months. PRE is currently working on obtaining approval for a canopy over the public charging area, as well as a digital price totem. In addition, a vending machine offering snacks and drinks is planned.
Together with the City of Prague, PRE is already searching for further suitable locations for similar projects. New fast-charging hubs are planned in the districts of Zbraslav, Komořany and Holešovice, as well as on Plzeňská Street in Řepy. Existing car parks and unused plots of land are expected to be prioritised for development.
According to the Czech Transport Research Centre, a total of 68,915 battery-electric passenger cars were registered nationwide at the end of May. Of these, 20,152 vehicles were registered in Prague alone. This confirms Prague’s position as the most important market for electric mobility in the Czech Republic.
