Prague has officially begun construction of another section of the future Metro D line. The new section runs from Olbrachtova station to Nové Dvory and connects to the works already underway between Pankrác and Olbrachtova since 2022.
On Friday, Prague Public Transit Company (DPP) officially launched construction of the next section of Metro D at the ND1 construction site near the intersection of Libušská and Kunratická streets in Prague 4. Initial works have already been underway there since this week. The project began with the excavation of the portal for an access tunnel, which will later be used for construction works on the future Nové Dvory station.
According to DPP, the first tunnel excavation works in this section are expected to begin in the second half of August this year. As part of the project, three additional stations with the working titles Nádraží Krč, Nemocnice Krč and Nové Dvory will be built. In addition, the line tunnels from Písnice to Olbrachtova station will be constructed.

Together with the already under-construction Pankrác–Olbrachtova section, the new segment will form the shortest independently operable section of Metro D. This section is expected to comprise five stations and run from Pankrác to Nové Dvory. DPP expects this section to enter service in the second half of 2032.

Nové Dvory station will be the largest and deepest station on the new section. Its platform is expected to be located at a depth of around 33 metres. Unlike Nádraží Krč and Nemocnice Krč stations, Nové Dvory will be built largely using mined tunnelling methods. These works will be carried out via an access tunnel approximately 300 metres long.
The future Nádraží Krč station will also be particularly distinctive. It is expected to become the only above-ground station on Metro D. Its tracks and glazed side platforms will be situated on a bridge spanning the Kunratický Stream valley. The station vestibules, however, will be constructed using the cut-and-cover method.

In total, the new section will be delivered through 13 construction sites. These will be distributed across the Nádraží Krč, Nemocnice Krč and Nové Dvory areas. In the Nové Dvory area alone, six construction sites are planned, including the main ND1 construction site, which covers nearly four hectares.
With the launch of this section, the future Metro D line has moved another step closer to reality. In the long term, the new line is expected to provide better connections between southern Prague and the metro network, while helping to ease pressure on heavily congested transport corridors in the southern part of the capital.
