Whether the Baltic Sea, the Alps or Scandinavian capitals: numerous European destinations can be reached comfortably from the Czech Republic this summer without changing trains.

Anyone wishing to explore Europe comfortably by rail this summer has plenty of options. Czech Railways (ČD), together with its international partners, offers daily direct services to more than 100 cities in six European countries. The network stretches from Copenhagen in the north to Villach and Klagenfurt in southern Austria, and from Hamburg in the west to Košice and Przemyśl in the east.

According to ČD, the connections are suitable both for traditional holidays and for touring Europe by rail. Travellers can reach destinations such as the Baltic Sea coast, the Alps, and the High and Low Tatras without changing trains.

“Summer holidays are a time for relaxation, but also for discovery. Travelling by train allows passengers not only to reach their destination, but also to experience the landscapes and people along the route,” said Jiří Ješeta, Member of the Board and Deputy Director General for Passenger Transport at Czech Railways.

Among the most important international routes are the trains running every two hours from Prague to Dresden, Berlin and Hamburg, as well as services from Prague and Brno to Vienna, Bratislava and Budapest. In addition, direct train connections are available from Ostrava to Žilina.

From Brno, direct trains operate not only to Vienna, Bratislava, Budapest and Villach, but also to Berlin and Hamburg. Along the north-south corridor through Moravia, direct services are also available to Wrocław, Poznań, Kraków and Graz.

Connecting trains significantly expand travel options

Through connecting services, travellers from the Czech Republic can reach hundreds of additional destinations in more than a dozen European countries. These include cities in Croatia, Slovenia, Switzerland, Belgium, Luxembourg and the Netherlands.

The international connections make it possible to travel to destinations such as Ljubljana, Zagreb, Salzburg, Innsbruck, Zurich, Frankfurt am Main, Cologne, Brussels and Amsterdam.

Interrail for flexible travel across Europe

For travellers wishing to explore several countries, Czech Railways recommends using Interrail passes. These are valid with numerous railway operators across Europe and allow for flexible travel planning.

The passes are available in various options depending on the duration of travel, the number of countries visited and the age of the traveller. The offer is particularly attractive for families: children under the age of 12 can travel free of charge under certain conditions.
