The persistently high temperatures are affecting residents and visitors in Prague alike. Prague 1 is responding by cooling heavily frequented squares and streets in the city centre.
The Prague 1 district administration is responding to the ongoing summer heat by once again deploying volunteer firefighters to cool heavily frequented areas in the city centre. Since Sunday, crews have been spraying streets and public spaces in parts of the capital particularly affected by high temperatures.
The locations include the Old Town Square, the area surrounding Prague Castle, and other places with high visitor numbers. The aim of the measure is to reduce the impact of the summer heat on residents, tourists and commuters.

“Prague’s city centre is particularly affected during the summer. High temperatures impact residents, visitors, senior citizens, children and everyone who moves around the city on a daily basis. That is why we are once again deploying our volunteer firefighters, who can provide fast and effective assistance wherever cooling is needed most,” said the Mayor of Prague 1, Terezie Radoměřská.
No drinking water is being used for the cooling operation. Instead, utility water from firefighting water reservoirs is being used. According to the district administration, this is a practical and resource-efficient solution. The frequency and routes of the operations will be continuously adjusted depending on further weather developments.

Additionally, Prague 1 has once again been using misting systems since May to help counter rising temperatures in the city centre. At heavily frequented locations, the mobile units provide additional cooling and help improve comfort levels in the heart of the capital.
In view of the summer heat, the district administration is urging residents and visitors to drink plenty of fluids, avoid direct sunlight whenever possible, and pay particular attention to senior citizens, children and other vulnerable groups.
