Due to the increased risk of forest and vegetation fires, a comprehensive fire ban will remain in force across Prague throughout the weekend. The restrictions apply to forests, parks, gardens and other areas considered to be at increased risk of fire.
The Czech Hydrometeorological Institute has issued a warning of an increased fire risk for the Prague area. As a result, Prague City Ordinance No. 6/2019 has come into effect.
The ban will apply from Saturday, 27 June 2026, at 00:00 until Sunday, 28 June 2026, at 24:00. According to the City of Prague, lighting fires is prohibited until further notice in areas with an increased fire risk. These include forests and areas within 50 metres of them, parks, forest parks, gardens, dry vegetation areas and agricultural land with highly flammable vegetation.
During the period of the ordinance, several activities are prohibited in these areas. These include lighting or maintaining open fires, smoking – with the exception of e-cigarettes – using pyrotechnic devices, and the use of other potential ignition sources such as sky lanterns, torches or flying lanterns.
It is also prohibited to discard glowing or burning objects. Steam locomotives may only operate if appropriate safety measures are in place. In addition, water from designated firefighting water sources must not be used for any other purpose.
In exceptional cases, open fires may still be permitted in these high-risk areas. According to the ordinance, this requires, among other things, a prior risk assessment by the organiser or operator, notification of the fire service control centre, and the presence of a fire brigade unit throughout the event.
