Prague Pride 2026 to Begin on Monday with Enhanced Security Measures

The Prague Pride Festival will begin its 16th edition on Monday. Following the fatal attack on a Pride event in Berlin last weekend, security measures in Prague are being strengthened.

Just a few days before the start of the 16th Prague Pride Festival, the organisers, together with the Czech Police, are increasing security measures. The decision follows the fatal attack on a Pride event last weekend, in which one woman was killed and several others were seriously injured.

According to the organisers, the security concept will not be made public for tactical reasons. As in previous years, the festival, and particularly the Pride Parade, will be supported by the police, a private security company, trained volunteers and the organising team.

“The attack is a tragic reminder that hatred towards LGBTQ+ people has real consequences. That is why it is more important than ever to remain visible and stand up for mutual respect,” said Festival Director Kamila Fröhlichová.

The Prague Pride Festival begins on Monday, 3 August, and will feature around 200 cultural, educational, discussion and music events this year. The highlight of the festival week will be the traditional Pride Parade on Saturday, 8 August.

Before the parade sets off from Wenceslas Square, a minute’s silence is planned in memory of the victims of the recent attack in Berlin. Thousands of participants are expected to join in sending a clear message against hatred and prejudice-motivated violence.

The organisers emphasise that the Pride March has stood for visibility, equality and peaceful coexistence for decades. This year's route through Prague city centre will be longer than in previous years. Visitors are therefore asked to bring enough water, protect themselves from the heat and look out for one another.

According to the organisers, the parade will once again take place without vehicles this year. Instead, the focus will be on the participants themselves and their shared message of diversity, respect and democratic values.
