For the fifth time, Holešovice Market will host the Mexican Day of the Dead festival, Día de Muertos. Together with partners Jarritos and Nuevo Progreso, the organisers are offering a full-day programme designed to introduce visitors to Mexico’s culinary and cultural traditions.
Colourful costumes, Mexican music and culinary specialities from Latin America: On Thursday, 5 November 2026, the grounds of Holešovice Market (Holešovická tržnice) in Prague will be transformed into a celebration of Mexican culture and traditions. Visitors can look forward to a varied programme featuring music, workshops, a traditional altar dedicated to the dead and numerous activities for children.
The event begins at 11 am with a selection of food stalls in the central market square and the eastern corridor of the market grounds. Numerous stalls will serve Mexican and South American specialities, including burritos, tortillas in various forms and grilled dishes. Mexican soft drinks from Jarritos and a beer specially brewed for the event by Falcon Brewery will also be available. The food stalls will remain open until 10 pm.

Mexican Market and Traditional Day of the Dead Altar
Another highlight of the festival is Hall 13, which will be transformed into a Mexican market between 1 pm and 8 pm. Visitors can discover traditional Mexican foods, handicrafts and other products. The market will also feature workshops, talks, bars and an accompanying cultural programme.
A central role will be played by the traditional Mexican altar dedicated to the dead, known as an ofrenda, which will be created by the Mexican Embassy. Decorated with photographs of deceased relatives, flowers, candles and personal mementoes, it conveys the true meaning of Día de Muertos.

Unlike Halloween, the Mexican Day of the Dead is primarily dedicated to remembering deceased family members. The celebration combines remembrance of the dead with music, colour and communal festivities.
Mexican Carnival for Children in Hall 11
Families with children will also have their own programme. From 1 pm to 7 pm, Hall 11 will be transformed into the so-called PEDRO Kids' Zone, featuring a Mexican carnival. The programme includes dance workshops, Mexican music, creative craft activities and various games. Children can make traditional decorations or try their hand at a game of skill involving throwing balls at illuminated skulls.

Among the special guests will be a Xoloitzcuintle, a traditional Mexican hairless dog. Children will also learn why this breed is regarded in Mexican mythology as a companion to souls on their journey to the afterlife.
The children's carnival is divided into one-hour sessions with limited capacity. Sessions begin at 1 pm, 2 pm, 3 pm, 4 pm, 5 pm and 6 pm. Admission costs CZK 100 per person for adults and children aged three and over. Tickets are available via GoOut and, subject to availability, at the venue.
Mariachi Musicians, Festive Parade and Film Screening
Elaborate decorations, colourful masks, stilt performers and traditional mariachi musicians will create a festive atmosphere throughout the market grounds. A festive parade, DJ performances and a screening of the animated film Coco , which also explores the traditions of the Mexican Day of the Dead, are also planned.
Visitors are expressly encouraged to attend the festival in colourful costumes and matching masks.
