Free Admission to Numerous Castles and Châteaux in the Czech Republic on Two Sundays

The National Heritage Institute is offering free admission to selected guided tours at numerous state-owned castles, châteaux, monasteries and other historic monuments in the Czech Republic on two Sundays. The initiative will take place on 30 August and 27 September 2026.

On the two special opening days, visitors will be able to take the main visitor routes at most state-owned monuments managed by the National Heritage Institute free of charge. Depending on the location, additional selected tours will also be offered without an admission fee.

Despite the free admission, visitors must book a free ticket in advance through the online reservation system. This is due to the limited capacity of the organised guided tours.

Information on the available visitor routes, tour times and the reservation of free tickets is available on the websites of the National Heritage Institute (ENG + CZ) and the individual attractions.

Most State-Owned Monuments Are Taking Part

The majority of state-owned castles, châteaux, monasteries and other historic buildings managed by the National Heritage Institute are participating in the initiative.

One exception is Invalidovna in Prague, where preparations are currently under way for extensive renovation work. Raduň State Château will remain closed in August due to filming and will therefore take part only on the September date.

During the two promotional days, the same operating conditions will generally apply as during the regular visitor season. Tours will take place at scheduled times, in groups and with a guide.

“We want people to be able to truly enjoy these two exceptional days. To avoid organisational difficulties as far as possible, visitors can find all the information they need for planning on the websites,” said Oldřich Pešek, Deputy Director for the Administration of Heritage Sites at the National Heritage Institute.

Visitors should first select the monument they wish to visit, check the available guided tours and then reserve a free ticket online for their preferred time.

Additional Events May Be Subject to Admission Fees

At some locations, previously scheduled cultural events will take place at the same time, including concerts or programmes organised by other event organisers. These activities are not part of the promotional days and may therefore still be subject to admission fees.
