Round Tower of Michalovice Castle Ruins Could Officially Become the World’s Most Accidental Tilt Tower

The round tower of the Michalovice Castle ruins near Mladá Boleslav could become the most accidental tilt tower in the world. The city is currently having its exact inclination verified and is subsequently considering applying for an entry in the Guinness Book of Records.

The striking round tower of the Michalovice Castle ruins near Mladá Boleslav could officially become the world’s most accidental tilt structure. Initial measurements showed an inclination of 6.51 degrees. The city is now having the figure verified using modern technology and is subsequently considering an entry in the Guinness Book of Records.

Geologists have begun measuring the exact inclination of the main tower of the Michalovice Castle ruins. The Mladá Boleslav city administration wants to determine whether the previously recorded figure of 6.51 degrees is in fact correct.

Should the result be confirmed, the tower would lean more than the current official world record holder among unintentionally leaning towers: the ruined church tower in Gau-Weinheim, Germany. Its inclination is 5.42 degrees. The tower in Michalovice would therefore exceed this figure by 1.09 degrees.

City Considers Guinness Book Entry

However, before potentially applying for an entry in the Guinness Book of Records, the city of Mladá Boleslav also wants to examine the effects on tourism and local residents. The state tourism agency CzechTourism has therefore been commissioned to analyse the advantages and disadvantages.

“The results should be available around the end of the summer or the beginning of September. In any case, a final decision will only be made after the elections,” Deputy Mayor Daniel Marek explained.

The city must consider not only the tourism potential, but also the interests of residents in what has so far been a comparatively quiet district. The castle ruins already attract visitors as well as Czech and foreign media. However, the surrounding area is currently inadequately prepared for a significantly larger influx of visitors.

The world’s best-known leaning tower stands in Pisa, Italy. Its current inclination is around 3.97 degrees, which is significantly less than the inclination measured so far for the tower in Michalovice.
