A train journey with children has long been expected to offer more than simply a connection between two places. České dráhy therefore provides children’s cinemas, board games and other entertainment options on selected long-distance trains. A new film programme awaits young passengers from September.
The children’s cinema is currently available on a total of 148 trains. It is part of the equipment on selected Railjet, ComfortJet, InterJet and Pendolino trainsets, as well as on several carriages used on EuroCity and InterCity services. The programme is updated three times a year.
Whether a train has a children’s cinema can already be seen when planning a journey on the Czech Railways website. Services equipped with one are marked with a dedicated symbol during the ticket search.
The service is available on all major long-distance routes within the Czech Republic, as well as on selected international trains. These include, for example, the Západní Express trains between Prague, Pilsen and Cheb and the Krušnohory services from Prague via Ústí nad Labem and Karlovy Vary to Cheb.
The Berliner trains between Prague, Děčín and Germany, as well as the Vindobona, Hungaria and selected Metropolitan services to Austria, Slovakia and Hungary, also have children’s cinemas. These are joined by the Pendolino trains between Prague and Ostrava and the Vltava and Lužnice routes from Prague to South Bohemia.

Board Games, Wi-Fi and Family Compartments
The children’s cinema is not the only entertainment option on board. On selected trains, the board for the game “Elfík’s Journey” is printed directly onto the folding tables. Children can borrow playing pieces and dice from the train staff.
Passengers with their own tablet or smartphone can also use the Wi-Fi, power sockets and the onboard information and entertainment portal. České dráhy also offers the children’s magazine “Můj vláček” and an online game of the same name.
“Families with children have long been a focus for us. The specific figures also demonstrate this. A total of 148 trains now offer a children’s cinema – almost 14 per cent more than last December,” explains Michal Krapinec, Chairman of the Board and Director General of České dráhy.
Reserved seats for families with children are now available on 515 services, six per cent more trains than in the previous year. The film programme is regularly updated to ensure that it remains attractive even for children who frequently travel by train.
No Additional Charges
There are no additional charges for the children’s cinema or the games. The services are included in the regular fare for the respective connection.
Children under the age of six travel free of charge. From the age of six, they receive a 50 per cent discount on the fare. From the age of ten, entitlement to the discount must be demonstrated with a valid form of identification containing a photograph of the child and their date of birth. This may include, for example, an identification card issued by a transport company, a passport or a comparable document.
Most regional trains are now low-floor, making it easier to board and leave the train with a pushchair. They have spaces for pushchairs as well as spacious accessible toilets with fold-down changing tables. Most Czech Railways long-distance trains also provide suitable storage spaces and baby-changing facilities.
