Mushroom pickers are currently finding favourable conditions in many regions of the Czech Republic. According to the latest data from the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute, prospects are particularly good in the mountainous regions of northern and western Bohemia.

The chances of a successful mushroom hunt are currently good across large parts of Bohemia. Conditions are particularly favourable in the Giant Mountains, the Jizera Mountains and the Ore Mountains. Mushroom pickers are also currently finding good conditions in numerous other areas of northern and western Bohemia.

By contrast, the situation is less promising across large parts of South Moravia and in some areas of the Vysočina Region. Forecasts currently indicate only a low probability of increased mushroom growth there.

The assessment is based, among other things, on the mushroom growth probability map produced by the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute (ČHMÚ). Current soil moisture data and average temperatures over the past few days are taken into account in the calculations. However, meteorologists point out that the map does not show the actual occurrence of mushrooms in forests. It merely indicates where current weather and soil conditions are particularly conducive to mushroom growth.

Despite the encouraging outlook, experts continue to urge caution. Dangerous misidentification, as well as the improper storage or preparation of even edible mushrooms, can lead to serious health problems. Unknown specimens should therefore not be eaten but should first be identified by a mushroom expert.
