With 92.7 out of 100 points, the Czech capital ranks significantly ahead of Vienna and Berlin in an international comparison. Visitors particularly appreciate the quality of hotels and tourist services.

Prague is among Europe's highest-rated city break destinations. According to the latest Global Tourist Perception Index (GTPI), the Czech capital performs significantly better than Vienna and Berlin in terms of visitor satisfaction. Spending by international visitors is also increasing.

With 92.7 out of 100 points in the latest Global Tourist Perception Index by the analytics platform Data Appeal Mabrian Intelligence, Prague achieves a significantly higher score than Vienna, with 85.6 points, and Berlin, with 78.4 points. The assessment takes into account factors including hotel quality, perceptions of safety and the range of tourist attractions.

For Prague City Tourism, the results confirm its long-term strategy. Since 2020, Prague has increasingly focused on quality rather than growing visitor numbers. “Our goal was not to bring as many people as possible to Prague, but to improve the quality of tourism and its economic benefits for the city,” explains Prague City Councillor for Culture and Tourism Tomáš Slabihoudek.

Tourists Spend More Money in Prague

Current economic data shows how Prague's profile as a travel destination is changing. In the first half of 2026, visitor numbers increased by only around one per cent compared with the same period last year. At the same time, spending by visitors from key international markets rose by 18 per cent, according to an analysis of Mastercard transaction data.

Cultural attractions are also becoming increasingly important. More than a third of social media posts by visitors to Prague focused on art and culture. This represents an increase of around five percentage points compared with the previous year. Only 4.5 per cent of respondents cited nightlife as a reason for visiting.

“Prague clearly shows that it is no longer a cheap travel destination, nor does it want to be,” explains František Cipro, Chairman of the Board of Prague City Tourism. Visitors increasingly appreciate the quality of services and the city's cultural offerings.

Prague Hotels Perform Particularly Well

Prague also leads in hotel satisfaction. With 80 out of 100 points, the capital outperforms Vienna, with 75.8 points, and Berlin, with 71.8 points. According to the Czech Statistical Office, almost two-thirds of hotel guests in Prague now choose four- and five-star accommodation.

Between January and August 2026, the average hotel occupancy rate increased by 4.9 per cent compared with the same period last year, while room rates rose by 5.1 per cent. In August alone, Prague's hotels recorded an occupancy rate of 84.7 per cent.

Last year, a hotel room in Prague cost an average of €123 per night. In the city centre, the price was around €170, rising to €241 in the luxury segment. Despite rising prices, satisfaction remains high: fewer than three per cent of the reviews analysed were negative.

Better Services and Growing Investor Interest

Prague is also becoming increasingly important as a location for hotel investment. According to Cushman & Wakefield's Hotel Investor Compass 2026 study, the capital ranks among the 15 most attractive European cities for hotel investors, ahead of Vienna, Zurich and Budapest, among others.

At the same time, Prague City Tourism is investing in visitor services. Between 2021 and 2024, the quality index for tourist information centres improved from 81 to 96 points. At the attractions managed by the organisation, the score rose from 81.6 to 92.7 points.

In 2025 alone, the information centres assisted more than one million visitors. In addition, attractions managed by Prague City Tourism recorded around 1.7 million visits. Alongside regular tourists, the organisation also looks after prominent guests, including singer Katy Perry and author Dan Brown.

The experience gained through quality management is now also benefiting Prague Castle, where Prague City Tourism is supporting the introduction of new standards for visitor services. In doing so, Prague aims to further strengthen its position as a high-quality European cultural and city break destination.
