Prague has a new air connection to Southeast Asia: the Vietnamese airline Vietjet launched regular flights between Prague and Hanoi on Saturday, 10 October. The new route is aimed at both the large Vietnamese community in the Czech Republic and tourists and business travellers.

With the launch of the new connection, Václav Havel Airport Prague is expanding its long-haul network. For Vietjet, the Czech capital is also its first destination in the European market.

“The launch of regular flights to Hanoi is an extremely important step for us in expanding Prague Airport’s long-haul network. We are very pleased that Vietjet has chosen Prague as its first destination for entering the European market,” said Radomír Lašák, Chairman of the Board of Prague Airport.

According to the airport, more than 67,000 passengers could use the new connection in both directions during its first year of operation.

Two Flights per Week with a Stopover in Almaty

The new route operates on Tuesdays and Saturdays. Flights between Prague and Hanoi currently include a stopover in Almaty, Kazakhstan. Passengers can also book just the Prague–Almaty leg of the journey.

The route is operated by an Airbus A330-300 with a capacity of 377 passengers. The new connection is therefore intended not only to strengthen travel between the Czech Republic and Vietnam but also to create additional opportunities for tourism and trade with Kazakhstan.

For travellers from the Czech Republic, the route also opens up further opportunities to explore Southeast Asia. Vietjet’s route network offers onward connections to more than 40 destinations across Asia and Australia.

Important Connection for the Vietnamese Community in the Czech Republic

The new air connection is particularly significant for the Vietnamese community in the Czech Republic, which is one of the country's largest foreign population groups. According to Prague Airport, there has been stable demand for travel between the two countries for years, particularly for family visits. At the same time, the connection is intended to strengthen tourism and economic relations between the Czech Republic and Vietnam.

Vietjet also sees the new route as an important step in expanding its international flight network. “The new connection between Prague and Hanoi represents a real milestone in the expansion of our international route network. It brings Vietnam closer to the Czech Republic and the entire European market,” said Nguyen Thanh Son, General Director of Vietjet.

The Czech tourism industry also hopes that the new air connection will provide an additional boost. Good accessibility plays a decisive role in the choice of destination, particularly for long-haul travellers. Vietnam is interesting not only as a source market in its own right but also as a hub for travellers from other Southeast Asian countries.

Vietjet Air was founded in 2007 and is based in Hanoi. The airline’s route network will provide travellers with access to more than 40 onward connections across Asia.
