Military equipment, exhibitions and a formal remembrance ceremony: Prague’s Náměstí Míru will be dedicated to war veterans on 11 November. The Prague 2 district will honour their service for the twelfth time with a full-day programme.

To mark War Veterans’ Day, Prague 2 is once again inviting visitors to Náměstí Míru on Wednesday, 11 November. The event is organised in cooperation with the Army of the Czech Republic, the Czechoslovak Legionnaires’ Association, the Association of War Veterans of the Czech Republic and the Military History Institute.

Visitors can expect a varied programme with presentations by the Czech army and military educational institutions. The morning will once again be aimed primarily at nursery and primary schools.

Remembrance Ceremony and Recognition of Distinguished Veterans

The main part of the public programme begins at 2pm. Guests from politics, civil society and the military are expected to attend. During the event, the War Veterans’ Association and the Czechoslovak Legionnaires’ Association will award commemorative medals to selected veterans.

The ceremony will also commemorate war veterans and soldiers from younger generations who lost their lives in the service of their country. It will traditionally conclude with a prayer and intercessions for those who have fallen in armed conflicts.

Historic and Modern Military Equipment

Historic and modern military equipment will once again be on display at Náměstí Míru this year. A particular focus will be the 30th anniversary of the end of the IFOR mission and the start of the subsequent SFOR mission.

Anyone wishing to support war veterans can already do so. The nationwide fundraising campaign “Vlčí mák České republiky pro naše válečné veterány” (“The Czech Republic’s Red Poppy for Our War Veterans”) has been running since 29 October and continues until 11 November 2026 at hundreds of locations across the country.

All proceeds from the collection go to the Military Solidarity Fund, which supports veterans, serving soldiers and their families facing difficult circumstances.
