Prague welcomed nearly 1.6 million tourists in the first quarter of the year

Latest data reveals that most foreign tourists came from Germany and the UK

Prague continues to be a magnet for visitors from all over the world. In the first quarter of 2025, the Czech capital recorded approximately 1.6 million travellers, including an increasing number of guests from Asia. The number of domestic visitors also rose noticeably, reinforcing the ongoing upward trend in tourism.

In the first three months of the year, a total of around 1.6 million visitors came to Prague. Current data from the Czech Statistical Office (ČSÚ) indicates that most foreign tourists came from Germany (172,805 visitors) and the United Kingdom (121,651). Visitors also came from Italy (99,989), Slovakia (74,811), Poland (63,943), and the United States (58,852). The proportion of domestic tourists also increased compared to the previous year. In the first quarter of this year, 368,638 domestic visitors came to Prague, accounting for around 23% of all visitors to the city. However, the most significant increase was recorded among visitors from Asia. From January to March this year, 172,624 visitors from Asian countries came to the capital, representing an 18% increase compared to the same period in 2024, continuing the upward trend.

‘I am very pleased that Prague continues to attract a discerning clientele interested in the highest quality services – whether in hotels, restaurants, or exclusive experiences,’ says Deputy Mayor for Culture and Tourism Jiří Pospíšil. ‘It is precisely this group of travellers that we will continue to target in the future.’

“The trend of visitors from Asian countries is on the rise, primarily due to the flight connections that have been restored in recent years. We expect the same trend among travellers from Canada and the Middle East, as we launched direct flights to Toronto, Abu Dhabi, and Riyadh in the first week of June,” explains Jana Adamcová from Prague City Tourism.

According to the STR report, which monitors the hotel industry, we now know that in the first quarter of 2025, the average occupancy rate in Prague hotels was nearly 60%, with the luxury segment exceeding 54%. The average room rate was €92 (approximately CZK 2,300). Prices for overnight stays in luxury hotels rose by nearly 12%. The average price for an overnight stay in luxury hotels was €179 (CZK 4,460).
