Tropical Heat in the Czech Republic – Weather Change Not Expected Until Friday

After a hot weekend, the Czech Republic is facing another series of tropical days – with Thursday expected to be the peak

The Czech Republic is sweltering: a heatwave with temperatures of up to 37 degrees Celsius has the country firmly in its grip. But meteorologists are predicting a change for the weekend – with thunderstorms and cooler temperatures on the way.

According to the latest weekly forecast from the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute (ČHMÚ), after a hot weekend, the country can expect several more tropical days, with Thursday likely to be the hottest. The weather will remain mostly sunny and very hot initially, followed by thunderstorms and a slight cooling towards the weekend.

Meteorologists say the current weather pattern is due to a surge of very warm air from the south. “From Friday, a wave-like cold front will slowly move eastward across Central Europe,” according to ČHMÚ’s assessment.

Today, Monday, the sky will remain mostly clear or only slightly cloudy. Temperatures will rise to as high as 32 degrees nationwide, with the northeast remaining slightly cooler at around 27 degrees. In mountainous areas, temperatures will hover around 22 degrees. A light to moderate wind is expected.

Meteorologists also predict plenty of sunshine and temperatures of up to 32 degrees on Tuesday. Wednesday will be even hotter, with local highs of up to 34 degrees possible. The preliminary peak is expected on Thursday, when the thermometer could climb to 37 degrees. With the extreme heat, the risk of thunderstorms also increases. The night into Friday is forecast to remain tropical, with lows above 21 degrees, especially in the western parts of the country.

On Friday, cloud cover will increase significantly. Only in the southeast of the country might temperatures once again reach the 32-degree mark. In much of the Czech Republic, they are expected to fall to around 29 degrees. As the cold front approaches over the weekend, a noticeable drop in temperatures is likely: maximum daily highs will mostly range between 21 and 26 degrees. Rain, showers, and isolated thunderstorms are expected in some areas.
