Operation Faraon in Prague – Police Target Illegal Immigrants

The operation was specifically aimed at foreigners residing illegally in the capital

On Friday, the Prague police carried out a targeted check of foreigners and verified compliance with residence regulations as well as commercial drivers.

On Friday, 31 October, a police operation took place at selected locations across the capital, targeting illegal migration, monitoring compliance with residence regulations for foreigners in the Czech Republic, and checking drivers of commercial passenger transport vehicles.

The operation specifically focused on foreigners residing illegally in Prague. Officers checked, among other things, travel documents for forgery or tampering. In addition to drivers of commercial passenger transport companies, vehicles with foreign registration plates were also inspected – for example, those from Ukraine, which must be registered in the Czech Republic.

In the evening, the checks focused on Wenceslas Square and the Old Town Square. The police worked together with detectives from the First Police District, dog handlers, and the Special Order Unit. Illegal behaviour by foreigners was sanctioned, checks were made to see if persons were wanted or reported missing, and valid residence permits were inspected.

Within a few hours, over 270 people and more than 50 vehicles were checked. During this, officers recorded over 40 administrative offences relating to public order and drug possession. Twenty-four people were temporarily detained, including eight foreigners residing illegally in Prague.

Such operations are not isolated incidents this year and are expected to continue in the future.
