This autumn, variety is coming to the dining cars of Czech Railways: the new seasonal menu offers hearty, down-to-earth dishes such as venison ragout or cabbage soup with sausage, while classics like Svíčková – the beloved creamy beef roast – remain firmly on the menu.
The Dumpling Express between Prague and Berlin is now history, but that doesn’t mean passengers have to give up hearty meals on Czech Railways trains – quite the opposite. On the new ComfortJets, as well as many other ČD trains, numerous hearty dishes feature on the menu – alongside, of course, freshly tapped Pilsner beer. And now, in autumn, there is a special offer perfectly suited to the season.
As usual, the new seasonal menu consists of a soup, a main course – also available in a vegetarian version – and a dessert. This time, the chefs are focusing on honest, traditional cuisine and intense flavours. The menu includes cabbage soup with sausage and sour cream, venison ragout with root vegetables and potato–celeriac purée, and, as a sweet finish, the aforementioned cake with chocolate ganache and caramelised sour cherries. Vegetarians can look forward to a Czech classic: dill sauce with eggs and oven-baked baby potatoes.

The new menu has been developed by JLV, the catering partner of Czech Railways, in cooperation with the Association of Chefs and Confectioners of the Czech Republic. Several times a year, the seasonal dishes change, allowing even frequent travellers to enjoy regular culinary surprises.
In addition to the seasonal specialities, the well-established core menu remains – including traditional dishes such as creamy beef roast (Svíčková), breaded chicken schnitzel, and various breakfast options.

Currently, around 160 trains operate daily with ČD restaurant service under the management of JLV. Step by step, modern ComfortJet dining cars are also being introduced, already serving routes to Berlin, Hamburg, and Vienna. In the coming months, connections to Bratislava, Budapest, and Copenhagen are to follow – offering passengers the chance to dine in style while travelling.

The well-known and popular Dumpling Express on the Prague–Berlin route is now history. But for those wishing to reminisce about old times, take note: the WRmz815 dining cars (Dumpling Express) have been relocated to Bohumín and are now used on Czech Railways’ Ex1 line between Prague, Ostrava, and Bohumín.
