Prague and Brno airports report strong growth in passenger numbers

More Guests from Germany, the United Kingdom, as well as Asia and the United Arab Emirates

Czech airports are reporting a strong year: both Prague and Brno have seen significant increases in passenger numbers. In particular, the number of international travellers continues to grow.

Tourism in the Czech Republic remains on an upward trajectory – largely thanks to rising visitor numbers from abroad. Václav Havel Airport in Prague handled almost 11.5 million passengers between the end of March and October, an increase of 7.7 per cent compared with the previous year. More than half of the travellers – precisely 54.5 per cent – came from overseas. Brno Airport reported a record summer, handling over 150,000 passengers in both July and August.

“The trend of increasing numbers of international passengers has continued this year,” says Jiří Vyskoč, Executive Director for Aviation Business Development at Prague Airport. “During the summer season alone, around three million international passengers were recorded; the share increased by 1.4 percentage points.”

Most visitors came from the United Kingdom, Italy and Spain. Traffic to and from the United Arab Emirates and Germany also rose significantly. According to Vyskoč, the reasons lie primarily in new routes and airlines: Etihad Airways launched a new scheduled service to Abu Dhabi in June, Emirates now operates an Airbus A380 again on the Prague–Dubai route, and Condor now connects Prague with Frankfurt twice daily.

Brno Airport with Over 660,000 Passengers Since the Start of the Year

From January to September 2025, more than 660,000 passengers used the Moravian city’s airport. The route network has never been this extensive: the summer season 2025 brought a record 36 destinations. As usual, July was the busiest month, closely followed by August – in both months, over 155,000 passengers were handled.

Visitors from Germany Clearly in the Lead

Between July and September 2025, 7.9 million guests stayed in Czech hotels, guesthouses and other accommodation establishments. They spent a total of 21.2 million nights – an increase of around one per cent compared with the previous year. Approximately 42 per cent of the guests came from abroad.

The majority of tourists again came from Germany (660,000), Poland (340,000) and Slovakia (288,000). Increases were also recorded from the United Kingdom and Austria. Prague remains the most visited destination, with over 2.2 million visitors.
