Prague is modernising its City Monitoring System

Implementation is being carried out in cooperation with the municipal company Technologie hlavního města Prahy

Prague is pushing ahead with the modernisation of its city monitoring system. The Prague City Council has approved the first order for new technologies to replace outdated components and improve the city’s security infrastructure.

The Prague City Council has approved the first partial order for new technologies for the city monitoring system. The modernisation includes the acquisition of new recording servers, rotating and fixed digital cameras, network elements and technical control cabinets. The order amounts to around 5 million crowns.

With this investment, the city aims to expand surveillance in key areas, reduce response times for emergency and security services, and gradually replace outdated analogue components with modern digital technology. “Prague needs a security infrastructure that is reliable, modern and compliant with data protection standards. It is not just about more cameras, but about better technology and faster data transmission for the city police (Městská policie) and the integrated emergency services. This modernisation step improves coverage in relevant locations, speeds up operations and contributes to the protection of public spaces – from traffic and safety to the prevention of vandalism,” explained Prague’s Mayor, Bohuslav Svoboda.

Implementation is being carried out in cooperation with the municipal company Technologie hlavního města Prahy, which operates the camera system. The first stage enables the installation of new camera sites, the replacement of selected analogue devices with digital models, the expansion of transmission and storage capacities, and the deployment of new secure recording servers.

The order includes, among other things, two servers, 40 swivel cameras including accessories, as well as ten stationary cameras with accessories. These components form the basis for the next modernisation phase of the system.
