The Signal Festival Prague 2024 Starts Today

Four Days of Audiovisual Art in Public Spaces

With the commencement of the Signal Festival in Prague today, a four-day celebration of audiovisual art begins in the heart of the city. From 10th to 13th October, visitors are invited to immerse themselves in the fascinating world of creative installations that transform public spaces into spectacular works of art.

The Signal Festival takes place from 10th to 13th October, offering four days filled with audiovisual art in public areas. Daily from 7:00 PM to midnight, attendees can explore two routes—Hradčany and the City Centre—showcasing a total of 22 art installations. For the first time this year, the area of Prague Castle will also be included in the festival, featuring seven stops in the paid gallery zone and two impressive video mappings. Additionally, the Signal Forum, a networking conference with expert talks on technology, new media, and science, will take place on 11th and 12th October at CAMP. Tickets are available online.

“Visitors can look forward to a variety of fantastic installations by Czech and international artists this year. Two large-scale video mappings are particularly recommended: one at the Archbishop’s Palace in Hradčany and the other at the City Library in the city centre,” says festival director Martin Pošta.

The Hradčany route features seven installations across 2 kilometres. The first stop is the Riding School of Prague Castle, where Korean artist Seohyo has created a vibrant projection of Prague’s architecture. Following this, visitors can experience the video mapping by Filip Hodas at the Archbishop’s Palace.

In the gallery zone, monumental works by Jiří Příhoda can be found, along with an interactive projection by Michael Bielický and Kamila B. Richter at the Schwarzenberg Palace. Here, spectators can use a steering wheel to alter the elements displayed on the walls. Furthermore, visitors can enjoy free access to the Southern Gardens through a collaboration with Prague Castle, where a reflective object from the Spanish studio SpY is exhibited. The route concludes at the Art Hall Prague, where the exhibition by the British collective UVA is on display, known for their collaboration with the band Massive Attack.

The festival’s grand opening will take place on 10th October at 7:00 PM in front of the Archbishop’s Palace on Hradčanské náměstí. Admission is free for those wishing to be among the first to experience the video mapping “Eternal Recurrence” by digital artist Filip Hodas. This internationally renowned artist skillfully plays with the boundary between fiction and reality. The artistic projection will be accompanied by music from the esteemed producer and DJ Pavel Ridoška, known as Rida.

This year, the festival will also present two stunning video mappings in Prague’s historic Old Town. In addition to the Archbishop’s Palace, the façade of the City Library at Mariánské náměstí will serve as the backdrop for a video mapping show by the Spanish-Danish duo Desilence. Their projection, “The Rhythm of the Ocean,” takes spectators into the depths of the sea, complemented by the music of the five-time Grammy-nominated Suzanne Ciani.

Both video mappings are free of charge and will run every 15 minutes from 7:00 PM to midnight. To pass the time between projections, visitors can enjoy the interactive video mapping from the national brewery Budějovický Budvar in collaboration with TMBK.

The full programme, along with tickets and VIP tickets, can be found on the festival’s website at signalfestival.com.
