Petřín is celebrating an anniversary: the Observation Tower and the Mirror Maze are turning 135 years old. An extensive anniversary programme featuring guided tours, workshops and discounted admission is set to attract visitors to the hill.
To mark the 135th anniversary of the Petřín Observation Tower and the Mirror Maze, Prague City Tourism has prepared an extensive programme for visitors. Numerous events are planned throughout May and June, with the highlight scheduled for Sunday, 3 May. On this day, a discounted combined ticket of 135 crowns will apply, covering both the tower and the Mirror Maze. The programme will also include a quiz and a marble tournament directly below the tower.
In May, it will be 135 years since the construction of the former exhibition pavilion of the Club of Czech Tourists – today’s Mirror Maze. The celebrations are intended to attract numerous visitors to Petřín Hill and showcase the unique atmosphere of two of Prague’s most visited landmarks.

In addition to the special event on 3 May with discounted admission, the programme in May and June will place a stronger focus on offers for families. The programme will also feature themed guided tours, including the evening tour “Legends of Petřín”, which explores historical sites and traditional stories. There will also be a curatorial tour of the Mirror Maze as well as night walks with stargazing at the nearby observatory.
In June, the programme will increasingly focus on children. On 3 June, they will be able to build their own mini observation towers in a workshop. A few days later, an interactive adventure will follow in the Mirror Maze, where children solve puzzles using light trails – inspired by stories surrounding the scientist Jan Marek Marci and the Voynich manuscript.
Further information, as well as details on registration and dates, will be published online on an ongoing basis. To accompany the anniversary, a special postcard will also be available, sold at the information centre on Petřín as well as in the souvenir shop at the Old Town Hall.
The Petřín Observation Tower, together with the Mirror Maze, is among the most visited attractions in the city. Last year, the tower recorded more than 447,000 visitors, while the Mirror Maze welcomed around 271,000.
Construction work on the tower began in March 1891 based on a design by architect Vratislav Pasovský. It was opened as early as August of the same year. Notably, its summit is at a similar height to that of the Eiffel Tower, which served as the inspiration for the Prague observation tower.
