An unusual new space for children opened in Prague 6 at the beginning of April: the first permanent adventure playground in the Czech Republic has enjoyed strong interest since opening. More than 4,000 visitors came to the site at Vypich during the first three weeks alone.

The new Adventure Playground at the corner of Na Klášterním and Na Vypichu streets was created by Praha 6 as an open space for creative play. According to the district, a total of 4,157 visitors passed through the gates of the site within the first 21 days of operation.

According to those responsible for the project, the high level of interest confirms the success of the so-called “Adventure Playground” concept. Preparations for the project took around six months. The district initially invested approximately CZK 800,000 in the development of the site and the construction of the infrastructure. Operating costs for 2026 are currently estimated at around CZK 1.5 million.

Due to the high number of visitors, the supervisory team has already been expanded. At the same time, the local authority expects that the operating budget may need to be increased slightly in order to maintain the quality and safety of the project in the long term.

The concept focuses on free and independent play with an appropriate level of risk. Children are encouraged not only to use traditional playground equipment, but also to actively shape their own environment. Real tools and materials such as saws, hammers, pallets and ropes are available for this purpose. The aim of the project is to give children practical experience and opportunities for creative work away from digital screens.

The current form of the adventure playground is the result of several years of preparation in Praha 6. The internationally known concept originally emerged in Denmark in 1943. The district first gained experience with a pilot project in the Na Kocínce area in 2024. This was followed in 2025 by a temporary playground in Pod Juliskou. The positive response ultimately led to the decision to open the country’s first permanent adventure playground in Prague.

The site is open free of charge from Wednesday to Sunday between 2 pm and 7 pm. The project is primarily intended for children between the ages of seven and 15. Younger children may visit the playground when accompanied by adults. In the mornings, the site is used by schools for programmes focused on environmental education and motor skills development.
