With the start of the most demanding construction phase so far, the modernisation of Prague’s Masarykovo nádraží is reaching a decisive stage. From June, several train connections will therefore face temporary restrictions.

The extensive modernisation of Prague’s Masarykovo nádraží is entering its next and at the same time most demanding construction phase. As part of the works, additional tracks and platforms will be renovated. In order to accelerate the reconstruction, trains from Kladno and Kralupy nad Vltavou will terminate at the new station in Bubny from June until the end of the year. Connections from Libeň and Vysočany will not be affected by the restrictions.

So far, the works have focused mainly on the construction of new platforms, which in future will serve train connections to Václav Havel Airport and Kladno. The modernisation of the historic part of the station is now beginning. This includes a comprehensive reconstruction of the central track sections and existing platforms.

In the coming days, demolition works will also begin on the tracks and platforms along Hybernská Street. The area will make space for archaeological investigations of the remains of Prague’s historic city fortifications.

According to the project organisers, the closure of the line across the Negrelli Viaduct will allow the works to be carried out more quickly. The aim is to complete the full modernisation of one of Prague’s most important railway stations by the end of next year.

Plans include a modern and significantly more efficient station complex with new platforms and improved infrastructure. A new platform above the tracks will also be created, connecting the station with the surrounding streets while providing additional public space in the centre of the Czech capital.

The reconstruction of Masarykovo nádraží is part of the large-scale “Praha – Letiště – Kladno” project, which consists of eleven separate construction sections. Completed sections already include the renovation of the Negrelli Viaduct, the new station in Bubny and the new Výstaviště station.

Modernised trains are already operating between the stations Kladno-Ostrovec and Kladno. A new station building is also currently under construction there. In addition, the modernisation of the line between Praha-Ruzyně and Kladno only began this spring. At around 15 kilometres in length, it is the largest individual section of the entire project.
