One of Europe's largest street art projects is currently taking shape in Prague 6. Along Vlastina Street in Ruzyně, 30 artists are transforming a concrete wall more than 700 metres long into a monumental open-air gallery.

The Mural Ruzyně project was initiated by the Prague 6 municipal district and is being created from mid to late June. Covering an area of around 1,800 square metres, Czech and international street artists are painting individual sections of the wall. The shared theme is "Krása města v pohybu" ("The Beauty of the City in Motion").

According to Jan Lacina, Prague 6 Councillor for Culture, Sport and Safety, the artists were deliberately given considerable creative freedom. The only requirement was the common theme. Each artwork will be signed, allowing visitors to see how the individual artists interpreted the concept.

The mural is being created as a curated collective work. The individual sections are designed to blend visually into one another, creating a continuous walk through different forms of contemporary urban art. Participating artists include Michal Škapa, Toy Box, Chemis, David Strauzz and Jakub Tytykalo, alongside international artists such as Bona Berlin, Tim Marsh, Luca Ledda, Smoka, Mandioh, Juanjo Surace and Kram.

The Mayor of Prague 6, Jakub Stárek, described the new mural in Dědina as a new landmark for the district. He said the project demonstrates how a place with a strong military history can, through collaboration and dialogue, be transformed into a work of art and a potential destination for visitors from the Czech Republic and abroad.

The public has also been involved in the project. Czech illustrator and street artist Toy Box is creating a section entitled "Kindness: Small and Large Good Deeds". To support the work, she is collecting stories from local residents, some of which will be incorporated into the mural.

The project forms part of the Urban Pictus festival, a biennial event that is holding its third edition from June to September. The festival is dedicated to enhancing public spaces through contemporary mural art. It draws inspiration from internationally recognised locations such as Teufelsberg in Berlin and the Wynwood Arts District in Miami.

Once completed, Mural Ruzyně is expected to become the third-longest collaborative mural in Europe. The project is supported by Prague 6, Prague Airport, as well as several embassies and cultural institutes.
