Prague is responding to the ongoing heatwave by activating its city-wide street spraying and watering programme. The aim is to cool roads and public spaces while reducing the impact of high ozone levels on residents and visitors.
In response to elevated concentrations of ground-level ozone, Prague's Road Administration (TSK) is launching a city-wide street watering and misting programme from Friday, 26 June, to Sunday, 28 June. The decision is based on the latest measurements and forecasts from the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute (ČHMÚ).
During the three-day operation, specialised vehicles will water roads and spray a fine mist across all Prague districts (Prague 1 to 22) in four cycles between 10 am and 6 pm. The measure is intended to reduce the effects of high ozone concentrations, which occur particularly on hot summer days with little air movement.

"We continuously assess the latest measurements and weather models provided by the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute. Based on the forecast development of ozone concentrations and the expected weather conditions, we have decided to launch the city-wide watering and misting programme as a preventive measure to protect the health of Prague's residents," said Kristýna Hujerová, Head of the Road Maintenance Department at TSK.
In addition, cooling mist showers have once again been installed at busy public squares to help make the current extreme temperatures more bearable. The proven measure is intended to provide relief for both residents and tourists during the hot summer months.
Locations of the mist showers:

In view of the summer heat, the city authorities are urging residents and visitors to drink plenty of fluids, avoid direct sunlight wherever possible, and take particular care of elderly people, children and other vulnerable groups.
According to the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute, weather conditions are expected to improve on Monday. Thunderstorms are forecast to move across Prague, bringing a reduction in ground-level ozone concentrations.
