The historic Barrandov Studio in Prague is continuing to invest in its future. With the opening of two new studios, film productions now have access to a total of 18 modern production halls.
Barrandov Studio in Prague is further expanding its production capacity. On Friday, 26 June, two new modern studios were officially inaugurated. This brings the total number of studios at one of Europe's most important film studios to 18.
The studios, numbered 11 and 12, are part of a multi-year investment project. Those attending the official opening included Director General and Chairman of the Board Petr Tichý, film director David Ondříček and actress Antonie Martinec Formanová.
According to Petr Tichý, the investment amounted to CZK 210 million. He said it forms part of the long-term development of the entire Barrandov complex. In recent years, the studio has also invested in a new costume and props department, the reconstruction of the former film laboratories and a new workshop building.

Each of the two new soundproofed studios offers more than 1,200 square metres of filming space and a height of 12.3 metres. This provides sufficient capacity for large-scale sets and technically demanding productions. Among other features, the stages are equipped with surrounding steel walkways, a freight lift with a lifting capacity of 2,000 kilograms, and concrete floors capable of supporting loads of up to 1,000 kilograms per square metre.
The studios are complemented by around 1,000 square metres of production and service facilities, including make-up rooms, costume rooms, catering areas and production offices. Parking spaces and electric vehicle charging stations are also available.

Demand for production space at the Barrandov complex remains high, Tichý emphasised. There had already been interest in the new studios before they were completed. The first tenants are expected to begin using the stages as early as July.
At the same time, Tichý pointed to the currently challenging situation facing the industry. The State Audiovisual Fund has temporarily suspended the acceptance of new applications for film funding for 2026. Nevertheless, the studio hopes to maintain the continued interest of international filmmakers in the Czech Republic.

With the addition of Studios 11 and 12, Barrandov Studio now has a total of 18 studios – 14 at the Barrandov complex and a further four in Hostivař. The total studio space at the Barrandov site amounts to 10,900 square metres. In addition, there is a 160,000-square-metre outdoor backlot suitable for the construction of large-scale film sets.
Barrandov Studio in Prague is one of Europe's leading film studios and has a history spanning almost 100 years. In addition to its sound stages, the company offers extensive outdoor filming areas, set construction workshops, technical infrastructure, a costume and props department, as well as dubbing studios. For many years, the studio has attracted major international film and television productions to Prague.
