Visitor Numbers in the Czech Republic Continue to Rise

Tourism in the Czech Republic developed steadily in the second quarter of 2026. The number of guests and overnight stays increased slightly, while visitors from more distant countries in particular travelled to the Czech Republic more frequently and stayed longer.

A total of 6.4 million guests stayed in Czech hotels, guesthouses and other collective accommodation establishments between April and the end of June. They spent more than 15.1 million nights in the country. The average length of stay was 3.38 days.

Fifty-four per cent of guests came from the Czech Republic and 46 per cent from abroad. Most international visitors arrived from Germany. With 649,000 guests, Germany was well ahead of Slovakia with 262,000 and Poland with 255,000 visitors. Large numbers of tourists also came from the United States, the United Kingdom and Austria.

Compared with the second quarter of the previous year, the number of arrivals rose by 0.5 per cent, while overnight stays increased by 0.3 per cent. The number of domestic guests grew by 0.9 per cent, while the number of international visitors remained virtually unchanged.

However, international guests spent more time in the country: the number of their overnight stays rose by 0.6 per cent. Among domestic tourists, by contrast, it fell by 0.7 per cent.

Prague Remains the Leading Destination

Prague retained its position as the most visited destination in the Czech Republic. In the second quarter, the capital welcomed 2.2 million guests, who spent almost five million nights there.

The South Moravian Region ranked second with just under 625,000 tourists. The South Bohemian Region recorded more than 500,000 guests. In addition to Prague, the Karlovy Vary, South Moravian, South Bohemian and Hradec Králové regions each recorded more than one million overnight stays.

The strongest increases in guest arrivals were reported by the Moravian-Silesian, Hradec Králové and Liberec regions. The Plzeň, Zlín, South Bohemian and Central Bohemian regions also recorded higher visitor numbers. The sharpest decline, by contrast, was recorded in the Karlovy Vary Region, at 4.3 per cent.

More Visitors from Overseas

Several smaller and more distant source markets developed particularly dynamically. The number of guests from Turkey increased by 21.8 per cent year on year. Visitor numbers from Bulgaria rose by 20.8 per cent, while those from Brazil increased by 20 per cent.

The number of tourists from the United States also rose by 9.4 per cent, while 7.2 per cent more guests arrived from Japan. The strongest increases in overnight stays were recorded among visitors from Brazil, at 24.6 per cent, Turkey, at 24.4 per cent, and Finland, at 21 per cent.

Direct air connections played an important role in this development. In addition to the routes launched this year from Philadelphia, Toronto and Abu Dhabi, STARLUX Airlines has also connected Prague with Taipei since August. According to CzechTourism, the new route makes travel easier not only for passengers from Taiwan, but also for visitors from Japan and other countries in East and Southeast Asia.

More Than Ten Million Guests in the First Half of the Year

From January to the end of June 2026, a total of 10.7 million guests stayed in collective accommodation establishments in the Czech Republic. They spent 26.2 million nights there.
