New Car Registrations Rise in the Czech Republic – Electric Cars Continue to Gain Ground

The Czech vehicle market has grown significantly since the beginning of the year. Alternative powertrains and motorcycles recorded particularly strong growth, while the share of conventional petrol and diesel vehicles continued to decline.

A total of 149,957 new passenger cars were registered in the Czech Republic between January and the end of July 2026. This was 4.53 per cent more than in the same period last year, when 143,456 new registrations were recorded. In July alone, however, the figure fell by 3.22 per cent year on year.

Škoda Auto remains the clear market leader. The domestic manufacturer recorded 55,056 new registrations in the first seven months, giving it a market share of 36.71 per cent. It was followed by Volkswagen with 11,295 vehicles, Hyundai with 9,764, Toyota with 8,643 and Dacia with 6,101 new registrations.

The ranking of the most popular models is also clearly dominated by Škoda. The Škoda Octavia leads the way with 11,425 registered vehicles. It is followed by the Kodiaq with 8,939, the Karoq with 7,427, the Kamiq with 7,356 and the Scala with 6,453 vehicles. The Hyundai Tucson, in eighth place, is the first model from another manufacturer.

More Than 10,000 New Electric Cars Registered

The market for fully electric vehicles developed particularly dynamically. In the first seven months, 10,168 battery-electric passenger cars were newly registered – 27.42 per cent more than in the same period last year.

Škoda clearly led the electric car market with 3,411 vehicles. It was followed by Tesla with 1,547, Mercedes-Benz with 513, Volkswagen with 471 and Ford with 444 new registrations. Škoda also took first place in July with 542 electric cars, followed by Tesla with 112 and Volkswagen with 107 vehicles.

Overall, registrations of vehicles with alternative powertrains rose by 13.89 per cent to 56,047.

Majority of New Cars Purchased by Companies

Corporate customers accounted for 75.22 per cent of this year’s new passenger car registrations. Private customers accounted for just 24.78 per cent.

At the same time, significantly more used cars were imported from abroad. Their number rose by 9.3 per cent compared with the same period last year to 94,048 vehicles. The average age of imported used cars was 10.4 years. Almost half were more than ten years old, while 23.31 per cent were even older than 15 years.

Motorcycles Reach New Record

The motorcycle market once again recorded particularly strong growth. In the first seven months, 24,103 motorcycles were newly registered in the Czech Republic. This was 26.37 per cent more than in the same period last year and also a new record. Registrations also rose by 25.2 per cent in July.
