Following the high temperatures of recent days, it will become noticeably cooler in the Czech Republic this week. At the same time, showers and thunderstorms are expected in many areas, which may be accompanied locally by heavy rain, hail or strong gusts of wind.

During the night into Monday, a band of heavier showers and thunderstorms moved across the country from the west. With the exception of the east and south-east, rain fell across large parts of the Czech Republic. By morning, rainfall totals generally ranged between one and 15 millimetres.

Around 30 millimetres were recorded locally in north-western Bohemia. In isolated areas of the Ore Mountains, more than 50 millimetres of rain fell. This was reported by the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute (ČHMÚ) on Facebook.

Thunderstorms Could Be Locally Severe

A waving cold front will continue to influence the weather in the Czech Republic throughout Monday. Severe thunderstorms may also develop, except in the south-western half of Bohemia. Heavy rain, hail and strong gusts of wind are possible in isolated areas.

Temperatures will fall significantly compared with the weekend. In the north-western half of the country, maximum temperatures will reach only 19 to 23 degrees Celsius. Temperatures of between 23 and 28 degrees are expected in the remaining regions, while they could still rise to 30 degrees in southern Moravia.

Tuesday Will Be the Coolest Day of the Week

The weather will become calmer on Tuesday. No thunderstorms are expected, although light precipitation may occur, particularly in mountainous regions. Temperatures are expected to fall to their lowest level of the entire week.

In some parts of Bohemia, maximum temperatures will remain below 20 degrees. In southern Moravia, however, they could still reach up to 25 degrees.

Temperatures will rise again from Wednesday. Daytime highs are then expected to approach the 30-degree mark once more. However, meteorologists do not expect heat as intense as last week.
