Culture is set to become accessible to even more people in the Czech Republic. From September, a new initiative will allow regular free visits to state collections.

From September, visitors will be able to visit the permanent exhibitions of numerous state museums and galleries in the Czech Republic free of charge on the first Sunday of every month. The first free museum Sunday will take place on 6 September 2026.

From September, the Czech Ministry of Culture is introducing regular free admission to numerous state museums and galleries. Their permanent exhibitions will be open free of charge to all visitors, regardless of age, on the first Sunday of every month.

The ministry is thereby building on a pilot project held in the spring. At the same time, the government is implementing another point of its programme aimed at improving access to cultural offerings.

Four free museum Sundays are planned before the end of the year: 6 September, 4 October, 1 November and 6 December 2026. The scheme is also set to continue in the coming years.

Culture for a Wider Audience

The initiative aims to make culture accessible to as broad a section of the population as possible and to encourage regular visits to museums and galleries. The free Sundays offer an opportunity to revisit popular institutions, explore permanent collections or discover previously unknown museums and galleries.

State museums and galleries in Prague and other regions of the Czech Republic are taking part in the programme. A list of participating museums can be found here (Facebook).
