Opera Legends José Carreras and Plácido Domingo Coming to Brno in January 2027

Two of the best-known tenors on the international opera scene will share the stage in Brno in early 2027. José Carreras and Plácido Domingo will perform with Filharmonie Brno at the new T ARENA Brno.

Opera stars José Carreras and Plácido Domingo will come to the Czech Republic early next year for a joint concert. They will perform at the T ARENA Brno on 20 January 2027, making them among the first international artists to appear at the new venue.

Carreras and Domingo will be accompanied by Filharmonie Brno under the direction of Spanish conductor David Giménez. The concert brings together two singers who have ranked among the most prominent figures on the international opera scene for decades.

Carreras and Domingo became known to a wide audience particularly through the Three Tenors concerts. Together with Luciano Pavarotti, they performed before audiences of millions from the early 1990s onwards and helped to popularise classical opera beyond traditional opera houses.

José Carreras began his career at the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona in 1970. Performances at leading opera houses followed, including La Scala in Milan, the Metropolitan Opera in New York and the Vienna State Opera. His repertoire includes more than 60 operas. Since the late 1980s, the Spanish tenor has also been involved in the fight against leukaemia and founded the Josep Carreras Leukaemia Foundation in 1988.

Plácido Domingo is also one of the best-known opera singers of his generation. Over the course of his career, he has sung more than 150 roles and, according to the organisers, has appeared in more than 4,400 performances. Domingo also works as a conductor and has conducted more than 600 opera performances and symphony concerts. He also became known through numerous opera films and television productions. Through the international Operalia singing competition, he also supports young opera talent.

Filharmonie Brno to Accompany the Two World Stars

Filharmonie Brno, one of the Czech Republic’s leading symphony orchestras, will provide the musical accompaniment for the concert. It was established in its present form in 1956, although its musical roots date back to the 19th century and are closely associated with Leoš Janáček.

The concert will be conducted by David Giménez. The Barcelona-born musician has worked with renowned orchestras including the Vienna Philharmonic, the London Symphony Orchestra and the Filarmonica della Scala. He has worked with José Carreras and Plácido Domingo for many years.

Tickets for the concert at T ARENA Brno on 20 January 2027 are available from CZK 1,600, plus advance booking fees. Official ticket sales begin exclusively via Ticketmaster at 10:00 on 24 September 2026.
