Prague’s Petřín Funicular Back in Operation with New Carriages from Today

After a break of almost two years, passengers can once again take the funicular up Prague’s Petřín Hill. Modern fourth-generation carriages with larger windows are now in use.

Following an interruption of almost two years, the Petřín Funicular is back in operation. Prague Public Transit Company launched trial passenger services at 7 am today.

The funicular operates daily from 7 am to 10.15 pm at ten-minute intervals. This means that Petřín Hill can once again be reached directly by public transport.

As part of the modernisation, completely new fourth-generation carriages were also acquired. They were designed by the Anna Marešová Designers studio and manufactured by the Doppelmayr/Garaventa Group.

The new vehicles draw on the tradition of the Petřín Funicular while also featuring modern technology and larger windows. This is intended to provide passengers with better views of Prague throughout the journey.

The Petřín Funicular is one of the best-known attractions in the Czech capital. At the same time, it forms part of the public transport network and is used by both local residents and visitors to the surrounding parks.
