Prague Ambulance Service Receives 25 New Ambulances

Prague Ambulance Service continues to invest in its fleet. The crews’ experience from their daily work was taken into account when equipping the new ambulances.

Prague Ambulance Service has received 25 new Volkswagen Crafter ambulances. Fifteen of them have now been officially presented. The vehicles are part of an order for 50 ambulances in total, all of which are due to be delivered by early 2027.

The ambulance service purchased 25 ambulances of the same type last year. According to director Petr Kolouch, they have proved their worth in Prague’s demanding city traffic. Suggestions from ambulance crews were taken into account for the new batch.

The bags containing medical equipment have been stored differently: crews can reach them both from outside through the side door and from the patient compartment. This allows them to retrieve the supplies they need while treating patients without opening the vehicle door. The air conditioning has also been upgraded.

The order for 50 new ambulances costs around CZK 224 million in total, or just under CZK 4.5 million per vehicle. More ambulances are expected to arrive later this year, with the remainder due in the first quarter of 2027.

The ambulance service is replacing older vehicles with the new arrivals. In the long term, its ambulances should be no more than six years old and have a mileage of around 250,000 to 300,000 kilometres. Beyond these limits, the repairs and maintenance required make them increasingly uneconomical to operate.

The new Volkswagen Crafters have an eight-speed automatic gearbox, a diesel engine producing 130 kilowatts and an all-wheel-drive system that engages automatically when needed.
