Prague 2 Opens Modernised Sports Facility in Riegrovy sady

Visitors to Riegrovy sady have been able to use the sports facility near Sokol Královské Vinohrady again since Tuesday. The modernised facility now also has a climbing wall and new parkour equipment.

The modernised sports facility in the upper part of Riegrovy sady has been open since Tuesday, 22 September. Prague 2 invested around CZK 8.7 million in the project.

The sports areas were expanded and designed for a range of uses. The modernised facility offers play and sports equipment, a small multi-purpose court for football or basketball, and a fitness area intended primarily for parents.

Parkour equipment, a climbing wall and a small fitness area have been added. The facility is intended for different age groups and complements the sports facilities of the nearby Sokol club.

“The renovation of the sports facility is part of a long-term plan for the development of Riegrovy sady. It envisages sensitive improvements to the park and aims to balance its active use with the preservation of its natural and historic character. The new facility is therefore another step towards ensuring that Riegrovy sady remains an attractive public space for sport, relaxation and meeting others,” said Jan Recman, Prague 2’s deputy mayor responsible for the environment and urban development.

“We see the expansion of public sports facilities as an important contribution to quality of life in the city. The new facility in Riegrovy sady provides more space for everyday exercise and informal gatherings. We took current trends into account during the modernisation and hope that people of all generations will use it,” added Jan Kolář, Prague 2’s deputy mayor responsible for leisure activities.

The modernisation is part of longer-term plans for Riegrovy sady. Prague 2 aims to balance its use for sport and recreation with the park’s natural and historic character.
