Blood has no club colours: with this idea, HC Sparta Prague is bringing sporting rivals together for a good cause. The anniversary edition of ‘Sparťanská krev’ aims to encourage people beyond its own fan base to donate blood.
With special jerseys and a clear message, HC Sparta Prague is promoting blood donation in November. The 20th edition of the ‘Sparťanská krev’ campaign is explicitly aimed at fans of other clubs and people who do not follow sport.
Some things are more important than club allegiance. This is the guiding principle behind HC Sparta Praha’s blood donation campaign ‘Sparťanská krev’ this year. For the 20th time, the club is raising awareness of the importance of donating blood and inviting people to put sporting rivalries aside for a good cause.
Statistically, one in three people will need donated blood at some point in their lives. Whether after a serious accident, during a complicated birth, during major surgery or in the course of a life-threatening illness, what matters is that help is available in time. Which club a patient supports plays no part.
Special jerseys in November
Throughout November, Sparta will wear specially designed jerseys at home and away games. On the chest, a brushstroke symbolising blood overlays the club’s traditional emblem. This creates a stylised Sparta logo with a clear message: ‘Donate blood.’

The jerseys also depart from the club’s usual visual identity: instead of the traditional club red, the design features black, white and blood red. The numbers on the back echo the brushstroke, while drops of blood running down serve as a reminder of the constant need for blood donations. The Sparta ‘S’ remains visible as a detail inside a small drop of blood.
At away games, the appeal is explicitly directed at fans of other teams too. Anyone can take part, regardless of which jersey they wear at the arena.
One blood donation can help up to three patients
The campaign focuses on people who depend on donated blood, for example after a serious accident, as premature babies or during treatment for leukaemia. Blood transfusions can save lives immediately or help patients cope with a long and demanding course of treatment.
A single blood donation can help up to three patients. Sparta therefore wants both to attract new donors and to encourage people to donate blood regularly. The aim is to ensure that hospitals have enough blood available when it is needed.

Club rivalry takes a back seat
For this year’s campaign, public figures and fans take off their Sparta jerseys in front of the camera. In doing so, they symbolically remove what sets them apart from others in sport and join the shared appeal: ‘You too can save a life.’
Through ‘Sparťanská krev’, Sparta is promoting blood donation for the 20th time. The club has also long supported registration as a bone marrow donor. For the anniversary edition, it wants to use its reach to encourage even more people to take part, including fans of other clubs and people who do not follow ice hockey.
The message is clear: in hospital, rivalry between clubs plays no part. Donated blood can help teammates just as much as sporting opponents. Or, as the campaign puts it: ‘Blood has no club colours.’
Blood can be donated in Prague at the following facilities:
Všeobecná fakultní nemocnice Praha (U Nemocnice 499/2, Praha 2)
Fakultní Thomayerova nemocnice (Vídeňská 800, Praha 4)
Ústřední vojenská nemocnice (U Vojenské nemocnice 1200/1, Praha 6-Břevnov)
Ústav hematologie a krevní transfuze Praha (U Nemocnice 2094/1, Praha 2)
Fakultní nemocnice Královské Vinohrady (Šrobárova 1150/50, Praha 10)
As a thank you, everyone who takes part in the “Sparťanská krev” blood donation campaign will receive a voucher for a free ticket to one of two Sparta Prague home games: against Hradec Králové on 15 November or Plzeň on 29 November.
Donate blood (Daruji krev), help others and enjoy a free Sparta Prague game at the O2 Arena as a thank you for your support.
